Steps of Yom kippur
Throughout the ritual of Yom Kippur there are many steps that have to happen to contribute to the Jewish ritual. The first thing that happens is that that participants go into a 24 hour fasting from food, drink, bathing and any sexual interactions, this starts the evening before the day of services. They also have to get prepared in white clothing before leaving to go to the synagogue for a day of services and forgiveness. When the services start at the synagogue they start at 8 am and the first set of prayers go to 3 pm, at this time many Jewish people go home to rest before going back for another set of services ending at nightfall. throughout the day and night there are five different services they must attend to complete the ritual correctly and earn forgiveness and good will in the eyes of God. To end the day and ritual there is a loud blow from the Shofar (ram's horn) to symbolize the end of fasting and Yom Kippur. (Yom Kippur, Judaism 101, 2011)
