Yom Kippur is the day of reconciliation for the Jewish community. Yom Kippur occur on Friday, September 13 and ends on Saturday, September 14. Yom Kippur means "Day of Atonement" it is a day where all of the Jewish put everything down and reflect on sins and forgo forgiveness with each other and God. It is also known to be effectively the last day to change the judgment of God as this is also the day where God is believed to decide your fate for the new year ahead in the religious calender. The sins that were committed through the last year must on that day be reconciled in the eyes of god for good will to come to he subject next year.
Yom Kippur is also a day of fasting. Through a 25 hour period the people are not supposed to work, eat or drink (even water), it is a full Sabbath day. On this day it is also custom to wear white symbolizing purity. Throughout the day of Yom Kippur, the synagogue holds services all day starting from 8 am and finishing at nightfall. when the services have come to an end there is a loud blow from the Shofar (rams horn).
Although Yom Kippur seems like a harsh and enduring ritual it is also a very happy ritual when people can earn forgiveness and be at peace with their sins. They can understand that their fate is now in the hands of God knowing they have completed their final day of repentance.
